WI vs SA: South Africa beat West Indies by one run to take a 2-1 Series Lead

WI vs SA: A restricted bowling effort & a blistering half-century from opener Quinton De Kock helped South Africa to take a crucial 2-1 series lead against West Indies in the 3rd T20I on Tuesday.

After setting a target of 168 runs for a win, the fast bowler Anrich Nortje & Kagiso Rabada caught West Indies in the final two overs to limit their batsmen from chasing the target. Several West Indies batsmen got off to a good start but unable to carry the momentum. Andre Russell hit three sixes in 25 overs while Nicholas Pooran hit 27 runs off 46 balls in four overs. South Africa’s bowler Tabraiz Shamsi starred with the ball by returning with figures of 4-0-1-3-2 to win the ‘Player of the Match Award’.

Earlier in the clash, Quinton de Kock registered his seventh T20I fifty from 34 balls smashing five fours & two sixes. For West Indies left-arm pacer Obed McCoy continued his impressive form by delivering slower balls & cutters. McCoy returned with his career-best figures of 4-22 off four overs to surpass his previous record of 3-25 on Sunday. Then came Van der Dussen who joined De Kock in the 10th over as the duo stitched a stupendous 60 runs stand from 45 balls before De Kock fell prey to Dwayne Bravo in the 18th over. Van Der Dussen finished with 32 runs off 24 balls before getting off-field.

South Africa resorted to spin at both ends, in order to defend their total & soon after conceding 20 runs in the first two overs their plan seemed like failing drastically. However soon Geroge Linde rose up & hit back in the seventh over claiming the prized wicket of Lendl Simmons for 22. The Proteas with the help of a perfect spin attack by Tabraiz Shamsi ran through the host’s batting order.

Spinner Tabraiz Shamsi claimed the crucial wicket of Evin Lewis for 27 runs & Shimron Hetmyer for 17 without conceding a single boundary in his bowling spell. In the death overs, a restricted bowling attack by Anrich Nortje & Kagiso Rabada helped South Africa to limit West Indies in their chase of 168 runs & defeat the hosts by one run.
