ZIM vs BAN 1st ODI: Zimbabwe outplayed Bangladesh by five wickets and registered a significant victory in the first of the three-match ODI series. With this, Zimbabwe continued their winning run against Bangladesh as they previously clinched the T-20I series by 2-1.
Winning the toss and electing to field first, Zimbabwe’s all-new skipper Regis Chakabva made the precise decision to field first. Batting first, Bangladesh managed to put up a commendable total of 303/2 in their 50 overs.
Tamim-Liton’s 119-run stand guides Bangladesh to a decent Total
Opening batsmen Tamim Iqbal (62) and Litton Das (81) provided a solid start to Bangladesh as the two added 119 runs for the first wicket. Amanul Haque (73) and Mushfiqur Rahim (52) captivated the start provided by the openers and put up an eminent stand of 109 runs for the second wicket. In the end, Mahmudullah’s cameo of 20 runs helped Bangladesh to cross the 300-run mark.
For Zimbabwe, Victor Nyauchi (1/65) and Sikander Raza (1/48) were the only wicket takers.
Innocent Kaia & Raza’s 192-run stand guides Zimbabwe to a historic win
Chasing a challenging total of 304, Zimbabwe were off to a disappointing start as they lost quick wickets in the form of Chakabva (2), Musakanda (4), and Madhevere (19). Struggling at 62/3, Innocent Kaia and Sikander Raza came to the rescue.
Kaia (110) and Raza (135)* smashed pivotal knocks to anchor the chase for Zimbabwe. The two added a match-winning stand of 192 runs for the fourth wicket. Luke Jongwe (24) supported Raza after Kaia’s dismissal as Zimbabwe recorded a historic chase and scored 307/5 in 48.2 overs.
For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman (1/57), Shoriful Islam (1/57), Mehidy Hasan (1/59), and Mossadek Hossain (1/67) chipped in a wicket apiece. The second ODI of the Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh series is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 7 at the Harare Sports Club.
