Cricket West Indies on Wednesday appointed an independent panel to review their T20 World Cup 2022 Performance. Brian Lara & Mickey Arthur have been named in the panel which will conduct a comprehensive review of the reason behind West Indies first-round exit from the T20 World Cup 2022.
West Indies who were the winners of the 2012 & 2016 editions of the T20 World Cup was knocked out of the tournament before the completion of the Super 12s stages after they suffered defeats at the hands of Ireland & Scotland in the first round itself the results which CWI said had caused disappointment & frustration among the West Indies Cricket Stakeholders & has resulted in Phil Simmons stepping down from the role of Head Coach.
Brian Lara & Arthur who are currently employed by SRH & Derbyshire have been named in the three-man group headed by Justice Justice Patrick Thompson Jr, a high court judge at the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. The independent group will be responsible to conduct a thorough & independent review of the West Indies T20 World Cup 2022 performance. They will also speak to a large group of stakeholders, selectors, squad members, management staff, board officials, ex-players, territorial boards, franchises & the CPL. They will then collate their findings & submit final reports to CWI’s board of directors by December 15.
Ricky Skerritt, CWI’s president, said: “It is vital that players, coaches, administrators, and all of us who love West Indies cricket, recognize that creating a sustainable learning culture, throughout the organization, is a prerequisite for player growth and team improvement.”
He further stated that emotions-based decisions have resulted in the failure of CWI in the past. But West Indies performance review will produce results & learnings that would be of great use for planning their way forward.
