MS Dhoni Birthday: Wishes pours as our very own ‘Thala’ turns 40!

Legendary former India Captain, MS Dhoni rings his 40th Birthday today & wishes poured in for the star cricketer from across the globe on social media.

India captain, Virat Kohli took to Twitter to wish the former India Captain. He shared a picture with MS Dhoni from the 2011 World Cup final & wrote, “Happy birthday skip”.

The BCCI also took to Twitter to wish him in a special way by calling him a “legend and an inspiration”. A legend and an inspiration! Here’s wishing former #TeamIndia captain @msdhoni a very happy birthday. #HappyBirthdayDhoni,” BCCI tweeted.

Suresh Raina who shares a great bond with MS Dhoni also wished the former skipper on this joyous occasion. Raina shared a video with a special message for MS Dhoni. He wrote, “Wishing you a very happy birthday @msdhoni You have been a friend, brother & a mentor to me, all one could ever ask for. May God bless you with good health & long life! Thank you for being an iconic player & a great leader.#HappyBirthdayDhoni

Even Ishant Sharma who played various International fixtures under the leadership of MS Dhoni wished him by posting an image along with the heartwarming message. Ishant wrote, “Mahi Bhai wishing you a very Happy Birthday!! A great friend in a captain! Hope you have the best day and a great year ahead!! @msdhoni”.

MS Dhoni’s Major Achievements during his Cricketing Career

  1. MS Dhoni made his international debut against Bangladesh in 2004. He has played 538 matches across all formats during his illustrious career spanning 16 years.
  2. The former India skipper has featured in 350 ODIs, 90 tests & 98 T20Is for India. He last played for India in the semi-finals of the World Cup 2019.
  3. Dhoni amassed 4876 runs in 90 test matches at an average of 38.1. He scored 10,773 at an average of 50.6 runs in ODIs & 1617 runs at an average of 37.6 in T20Is.
  4. MS Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in the history of World Cricket. He is the only captain who has won all three major ICC trophies i.e. T20 World Cup (2007), 50-over World Cup (2011) and Champions Trophy (2013).
  5. MS Dhoni is the first Indian captain to help team India attain the top spot in the ICC Test rankings in the year 2009. 
  6. Dhoni is the only Indian skipper to win 100 ODIs. He is the first Indian to hit 200 sixes in ODI format.
  7. MS Dhoni has surpassed former Australia captain Ricky Ponting to finish with most International matches as captain across all formats. He led India in a staggering 332 international matches, eight matches more than Ricky Ponting who led his team in 324 matches. Dhoni has won 178 games and lost 120 while drawing 15 with 6 of them ending in a tie.
  8. Dhoni registers most number of wins as an Indian captain in ODIs by winning 110 matches out of total 200 matches.
  9. MS Dhoni registered a brilliant knock of 183 runs in 145 balls against Sri Lanka in the 3rd ODI match in 2005 to become the highest wicket-keeper run scorer in ODI cricket.
  10. Dhoni is the first & only wicket-keeper to register 150 stumping dsmissals across all three formats of cricket. His current total of stumpings in international cricket stands at 161.
  11. He became the first Indian wicket-keeper to take 300 ODI catches. He has also taken highest no of catches as a wicket-keeper in T20I cricket i.e. 54 catches.
  12. Dhoni is the first player to surpass 10,000 ODI runs with a career average of over 50. He is also the fourth Indian to reach 10,000 ODI runs mark.
  13. MS Dhoni is the first Indian wicket-keeper to reach 4,000 Test runs mark.
  14. In the shortest format of cricket MS Dhoni has played highest number of matches as a captain & wicket-keeper i.e. 72. He holds the unanimous record of playing highest number of T20I innings i.e. 76 & has scored highest runs in the shortest format of cricket i.e. 1,153.
  15. Dhoni enjoys the record of registering highest number of victories in the shortest format of cricket by winning 41 T20Is.
  16. The “Thala” of CSK has led his team 11 times to the playoffs which is the most by any captain in the history of IPL. He is the only captain in the IPL to win 104 matches.
  17. Dhoni has hit 209 sixes in IPL which is the highest by any Indian batsmen. He has played in 204 IPL matches which is the most by any player.
  18. Dhoni holds the record of registering highest number of stumpings in IPL with 38 stumpings.
  19. MS Dhoni has played nine IPL finals out of which he has played 8 finals for CSK & one for Rising Pune Supergiants. Out of eight finals that he has played for CSK, he has won three of them.
  20. Dhoni is regarded as one of the best finishers of cricket who takes the game to the last ball. Even in IPL many a times Dhoni took the game in the last over & won the match with his thunderous batting. In the IPL, ‘Thala’ enjoys a rare record of scoring a total of 564 runs in the 20th over.

On August 15, 2020, Dhoni pulled down curtains on his illustrious career. Though Dhoni has retired from International cricket he still plays in IPL & continues to rule the hearts of millions of his fans. MS Dhoni is not only a brilliant wicket-keeper & finisher but he is one of the exceptional leaders in World Cricket.
