New Zealand’s spin all-rounder Amelia Kerr has tested positive for COVID-19 on their tour to England. The squad has traveled to England to participate in the upcoming Birmingham CWG 2022, starting on July 28.
Amelia tested positive for COVID-19 after a round of Rapid Antigen Tests conducted on the players on Saturday. After positive results, she has been put into isolation at the team hotel. According to a media release by NZC, only Kerr has tested positive for COVID-19 while the rest of the members of the touring contingent has tested negative for COVID-19. NZC further said that they are monitoring the rest of the teammates & they will be tested as & when required.
The entire New Zealand Contingent departed for England from Lincoln on July 12 where they had a training camp for a week. New Zealand will play its first match of the tournament against South Africa on July 30. However, before marching into the marquee event, the 15-member squad will have another week of training camp at Millfield School in Somerset where they will also play two practice matches against England A after that the completion of practice fixtures they will head to Birmingham to participate in the CWG 2022.
Amelia Kerr was an integral part of the 15-member New Zealand squad announced for the CWG 2022. Kerr has scalped 41 wikcets in 41 innings in T20I cricket at an enticing economy rate of 5.94. With the bat too Kerr comes in handy after scoring 234 runs in 24 innings. Amelia Kerr has created an impression in the white ball format through exemplary experiences & her absence would be felt by the White Ferns in the upcoming CWG 2022.
For the unversed, Women’s Cricket will feature for the first time at the Commonwealth Games in the upcoming edition of the tournament & cricket as a whole for the second time after Men’s 50-over competition was held back in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur which was won by South Africa.
