DBA vs CS, LPL 2022: Colombo Stars beats Dambulla by Nine Runs

DBA vs CS, LPL 2022: Colombo Stars beat all the odds & outclassed Dambulla Aura by nine runs to register their maiden win of the LPL 2022. Batting first Colombo got off to a poor start as they lost three wickets within the powerplay overs. Mattews (4), Paranavithana (0), and Asalanka (6) all were sent back to the pavilion early reducing Stars to 26-2 in 3 overs.

Dickwella-Chandimal 34 run stand laid the foundation for Stars Win

It seemed like things are all but over for Colombo as they were in dire need of runs. However, Dickwella on the crease meant Colombo was still alive in the fixture. He stitched a crucial 54-run stand for the fourth wicket with Bopara to keep Stars scoreboard ticking. Soon their happiness ended with Bopara getting run out after scoring 26 runs off 25 balls with two fours & one six.

Dickwella then joined hands with Chandimal & the duo got the better of Dambulla Aura bowlers. They stitched a rewarding 34-run stand for the fifth wicket & guided Colombo to a decent 165-run total. Chandimal stood on the crease till the end while Dickwella was sent back in the 15th over after scoring 62 runs off 41 balls with eight fours & two sixes. Dickwella’s dismissal didn’t affect Chandimal on the other end who did his job by scoring an unbeaten 29 runs off 23 balls. He got valuable support from Drakes who played a brief knock of 18 runs off 12 balls. The duo helped Colombo Stars to end their innings at 165 runs.

For Dambulla Aura, Lahiru Kumara stood out with the ball by returning with figures of 4-36. He got valuable support from Raza, Madushanka & Ratnayake who sclaped one wicket each.

Abell-Shanaka’s brilliant knocks went in vain

In reply, Dambulla Aura got off to a blastic start with openers Daniel (28 off 27) & Jordon Cox (29 off 15) stitching a valuable 53-run stand for the first wicket. After their dismissals in the eighth over, Tom Abell & Dasun Shanaka took the matter into their hands & added valuable runs to keep Aura alive in the run-chase. Tom Abell got dismissed in the 14th over after scoring 33 off 22 balls but Shanaka stayed unbeaten at 31 off 20 balls. However, his efforts went in vain as none of the lower-order batters could score runs & were dismissed cheaply for single-digit scores. As a result, their innings were wrapped for 156 in 20 overs, registering a narrow nine-run win. For Stars Lakmal, Drakes, and Janat returned with two scalps each.

DBA vs CS, LPL 2022: Man of the Match

Dickwella received the Man of the match award for his match-winning 62-run knock that powered Colombo Stars to a gleaming win.
