The Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) Chief Rohan Jaitley has sacked the senior selection committee after a reported brawl within the panel that raised an alarm for a dubious selection. Jaitley was totally embarrassed with the proceedings and discharged the selection committee of their duties.
Controversy between DDCA Chief Gagan Khoda & Mayank Sidana
The DDCA Selection Committee Chief Gagan Khoda and Mayank Sidana were involved in a disappointing public fallout that triggered a sharp controversy amongst the selection panel. It is highly believed to be a prominent reason for Jaitley’s involvement and his nasty decision to terminate the services of the committee.
Khoda, Sidana, and the selection committee were attending a meeting on Tuesday to ascertain Delhi’s squad for the upcoming CK Nayudu U-25 Trophy. A number of differences between the two led to a public fallout and subsequently resulted in Sidana staging a walkout along with his favorites. Reports also suggest that Khoda and Sidana were also involved in a major tussle while naming Delhi’s Ranji Trophy squad.
Delhi’s results and talent struggles
Meanwhile, the struggle for power in the DDCA selection committee has vandalized the results of the team. Delhi is winless at the current edition of the Ranji Trophy and stands second-last in Group B. The fine talents in the capital city are deprived of opportunities as corruption has hit the DDCA body. One such example is the selection of Ayush Badoni as an opener in place of Anuj Rawat. Badoni has struggled to find his nick and score big in his first-class debut season.
DDCA CAC to take a call on the U-25 squad
As the DDCA selection committee remains void with all the powers seized, the DDCA Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Nikhil Chopra, Reema Malhotra, and Gursharan Singh will be responsible for selecting squad for the CK Nayudu U-25 Trophy and until DDCA appoints a new committee.
Rohan Jaitley also addressed the media after the humiliating incident and expressed his displeasure over the selection committee’s behavior. He also stated that he was already disappointed after the selection committee named 20-22 players for the Ranji Trophy where BCCI’s directive allows only a 15-member frontline squad.
Jaitley’s sentiments are truly justifiable as Delhi’s recent performance in the ongoing domestic circuit is deteriorating. Delhi failed to qualify for the knockouts of the Vijay Hazare Trophy and was beaten by Vidarbha in the quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. It will be interesting to find out the new office bearers of DDCA’s selection committee.
