DSG vs JSK: Joburg Super Kings have begun their SA20 league campaign on a winning note after registering a thrilling 16-run win over Durban Super Giants in their opening fixture of the league. With top players featuring in SA20, it’s no less than a star-studded cricket affair for cricket fans.
The fixture began with Joburg Super Kings taking the field to bat first. However, the Kings couldn’t get off to a good start as they lost wickets in the initial overs. Malan (5), Hendricks (1), Verreynne (10), and Gregory (2) all failed to hit the straps, reducing Joburg Kings to 27-4 in just 5.6 overs. Then came a respite for the Kings as Faf Du Plessis steadied Kings innings. He scored 39 runs off 33 balls with three fours to take Kings near the 100-run mark.
After Plessis’s dismissal, Donavon Fereira & Romario Shepherd anchored Kings innings by notching up crucial runs. Fereira amassed 82 runs off 40 balls with eight fours & five sixes while Shepherd scored 40 runs off 20 balls with one two fours & four sixes. Their heroics helped Super Kings to reach 190 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Dir Durban Suoer Giants Subrayen returned with figures of 2 for 26 runs while the rest of the bowlers returned with one wicket each.
In reply, Durban Super Giants got off to a blistering start with Kyle Mayers & De Kock adopting aggressive approaches right from the beginning of their innings. The duo stitched a rewarding stand & took Giants scoreboard beyond the 90-run mark for the first wicket. However soon their blooming stand was broken with Kyle Mayers getting dismissed for 39 runs off 29 balls with two fours & three sixes. After 10 overs Durban Super Giants scoreboard read 98-1.
But his dismissal didn’t affect De Kock on the other end who scored 78 runs off 52 balls with five fours & five sixes. After Kock’s dismissal in the 18th over Klaasen & Pretorious kept their scoreboard ticking by playing brief cameos. Klaasen scored 20 runs off 21 balls while Pretorious scored 14 runs off 6 balls. However, they failed to convert their starts into big scores, and as a result, Giants fell short of 16 runs in the end. For Joburg Super Giants Alzarri Joseph starred with the ball by returning with figures of 2 for 30.
