Dwayne Bravo retires from IPL, joins CSK as Bowling Coach

IPL 2023: A wave of shock ran through cricket fans & the entire cricket fraternity as CSK’s key all-rounder Dwayne Bravo called time on his illustrious IPL Career. However, he will still be associated with the CSK franchise as the management has appointed him as their bowling coach. He will replace L Bajaj who has taken a break from his coaching duties due to personal reasons.

Speaking about the transition in his role, Bravo said that he is looking ahead to this new opportunity as he has the goal of serving as a bowling coach after his batting career gets over. He further said that he loves to work with bowlers & during his playing days he used to coordinate & discuss with bowlers how they can always be one step ahead of batters. He also emphasized that he will miss bowling on the crease but is confident & excited about his new role.

A Glimpse of Dwayne Bravo’s illustrious Stint at IPL

Dwayne Bravo was signed by CSK in 2011 & was retained by the franchise except for two IPL seasons i.e. 2016 & 2017 when CSK was suspended & Bravo was picked with Gujarat Lions before being retained by CSK in 2018. In total, he has played 161 games in IPL out of which he had featured in 116 games for CSK. He also had a stint with Mumbai Indians after being signed by the franchise for the 2008 season.

Being a part of the CSK franchise he has won IPL titles thrice in 2011, 2018, and 2021 & the Champions League in 2014. Notably, Bravo is the only player to win Purple Cap (an award for most wickets in IPL) twice in the history of IPL i.e. in the 2013 & 2015 seasons. He also shares the award of highest wicket-taker with Harshal Patel in a single season. However, CSK released him ahead of the IPL 2023 auction & the swashbuckling all-rounder hasn’t registered himself for IPL 2023 mini-auction.

CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan applauded Bravo for his contribution to the success of the team. He congratulated Bravo for an illustrious career in the IPL & said that bravo has been a crucial member of the CSK family & having him as a bowling coach is a matter of pride for them. He also emphasized that Bravo’s widespread experience will add more strength to their lineup & will bolster their bowling attack.
