ENG vs IND 2022: There comes a price of good news for the Indian side who will be bolstered with the return of their captain Rohit Sharma. India’s regular captain Rohit Sharma has tested negative for COVID-19 and is currently out of isolation. He will now be available for England’s white-ball series which will begin with the first T20I on July 7 at Southampton.
Earlier Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the rescheduled fifth Test after testing positive for Covid-19 first during their four-day practice match against Leicestershire and again on the eve of the fifth Test. However, now he has recovered fully from Covid and is out of isolation.
“Yes, Rohit has tested negative and as per medical protocols is now out of quarantine. However, he is not playing today’s T20 warm-up game against Northamptonshire as he will need some recovery time and training ahead of the first T20I,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.
As per the BCCI’s medical policy, any player who recovers from Covid-19 and comes out of isolation needs to undergo cardiovascular tests to check their lung capacity, so after clearing cardiovascular Tests Rohit will be available for India’s first T20I against England.
For the unversed, Rohit had tested positive during four days practice match against Leicestershire and even after undergoing a quarantine period, Rohit again returned with positive results thrice on the eve of the fifth Test which ruled him out of the Fifth Test and brought in Jasprit Bumrah as the Captain of the Indian team for the fifth Test.
While Rohit will feature in India’s white-ball series right from the first T20I, India’s other key players, Virat Kohli, Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja will be available from the second game onwards. The first T20I starts on July 7, two days after the scheduled Test end on July 5.
