ENG vs NZ 3rd Test: New Zealand’s star batter Devon Conway has tested positive for COVID-19 after undertaking an RT-PCR Test on arrival in the UK on Wednesday. Currently, Conway is under five days of isolation after returning with a positive result & would probably get fit ahead of the final Test, which will be played at Headingley from June 23 to 27.
Apart from Conway, New Zealand’s all-rounder Michael Bracewell & two other members of their support staff have also returned with positive results & have begun their isolation period. The trio will travel separately to Leeds for the Final Test. However, one positive for the touring squad is that the rest of its members have returned with negative results.
Meanwhile, New Zealand haven’t named any replacement for Conway or Bracewell as they are expected to recover on time & would probably join team training sessions on Tuesday ahead of the final Test.
“Conway undertook a PCR test on arrival in London on Wednesday evening in preparation for a team activity. He joins all-rounder Michael Bracewell and support staff personnel Vijay Vallabh (physio) and Chris Donaldson (strength & conditioning) as members of the tour party to have tested positive on Wednesday,” New Zealand Cricket said in its official release.
“The three will travel separately from the team to Leeds on Sunday and providing they recover as expected will be able to join the team for training at Headingley on Tuesday, ahead of Thursday’s final Test,” the statement added.
Devon Conway returned with scores of 46 & 52 during the second Test while batting at number three in the absence of Kane Williamson who tested positive on the eve of the second Test.
Talking about the Test series, England have already clinched the series with 2-0 scores. However, New Zealand will now compete for crucial WTC Points in the Final match of the series at Headingley starting on June 23.
