ENG vs NZ: The English Cricket Board (ECB) has announced England’s squad for the upcoming two-match test series against New Zealand. Some notable changes were made in the frontline squad that recently toured Pakistan as the management is concerned to strengthen the pace bowling attack with hard and bouncy pitches.
Veteran paceman Stuart Broad has been recalled in the side after he was on a brief family break upon the birth of his first child. Ace pacer Matthew Potts and all-rounder Dan Lawrence have also made it into the squad after a brief omission.
Potts made his debut against New Zealand last year and has remained impressive under Ben Stokes’s captaincy. He had claimed 20 wickets at an average of 28 but has remained out of the mainstream team since the South African series that marked the return of Ollie Robinson. Potts was also omitted from Pakistan series. Dan Lawrence has remained consistent for England in the red-ball format. However, he sustained a series of hamstring injuries that kept him out of the squad for a brief period.
Olly Stone returns to the Test Squad in place of Mark Wood
Frontline paceman Olly Stone has also found a place in England’s squad for the upcoming test series. He will likely be provided with an integral opportunity as senior pacer Mark Wood has been rested. Wood has announced a brief break from professional cricket and will return for the Bangladesh series in March and subsequently be available for IPL.
Astonishing all-rounder Liam Livingstone continues to be out of the squad as he sustained a knee injury against Pakistan and has not recuperated since then. Spinner Rehan Ahmed who had a fascinating debut against Pakistan will also remain out of the squad as he is set to feature for Gulf Giants in ILT20.
Joe Root has been included in the squad who will also be busy at the ILT20 simultaneously. Ben Stokes will continue to lead England against arch-rivals New Zealand as the skipper is reaping victorious results for his side.
ENG vs NZ: England’s 15-member squad:
James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ben Foakes, Will Jacks, Dan Lawrence, Olly Stone, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root
