Pakistan is heading into this clash on the back of a humiliating defeat against England in the first T20I. Batting first Pakistan could register just 158 runs total on board. Babar Azam (31) & Mohammad Rizwan (68) helped Pakistan to get off to a good start. Howveer their efforts went in vain as their middle order couldn’t deliver with the bat. The likes of Khushdil Shah, and Asif Ali all failed to hit the straps. However, Iftikhar Ahmed’s 28 runs knock meant Pakistan finished their innings on 158 runs. The middle-order batters need to up their game with the bat & return to scoring terms if they aim to level the series.
In bowling department, Naseem Shah & Mohammad Nawaz failed to return with wickets. Usman Qadir starred with the ball after returning with two wickets for 36 runs. Naseem Shah & Nawaz need to find ways to scalp crucial wickets if they aim to create an impact on England.
On the other hand, England would be filled with joy after registering a scintillating win over the hosts in the first T20I. Though the majority of their key players missed the first T20I they still managed to chase the target within 19.2 overs. Chaisng the target they lost opener Philip Salt (10) early in the powerplay overs. However, Alex Hales who made a comeback to international cricket left a mark by scoring 53 runs off 40 balls.
Hales stitched brief stands with Malan (20) & Duckett (21) to bring England near to victory. Later Harry Brooks pivotal 42 runs off 25 balls helped England to complete the chase of 158 runs in 19.2 overs. His crucial knock guided England over the line easily. With the ball Luke Wood (3-24) & Adil Rashid (2-27) helped the visitors to restrict the hosts to a meager total on their own home ground. Heading into the second T20I, England would make sure that the seed of victory that they have sown in the first T20I continues to bloom in the second T20I as well.
