ENG vs SA 3rd Test: Clinical England win by 9 wickets to clinch the series by 2-1

ENG vs SA 3rd Test: The ‘Bazball’ brand of cricket was quite visible in England’s approach during the third & the decider Test of the series. The Three Lions easily clinched the Test series by 2-1 after defeating the Proteas in the third Test by nine wickets. Earlier the Test series was poised at a 1-1 score with the winners to be decided by the results of the Third Test.

England’s on-point bowling attack restricted Proteas from Scoring Big

The match began with England winning the toss & opting to bowl first on a pitch that supported bowlers. Batting first South African batters couldn’t settle on the crease thanks to a spectacular show by England bowlers who wreaked havoc right from the word go. Robinson & Broad was on fire as they didn’t let Proteas batters settle anytime on the crease. Robinson sclaped five wickets while Broad supported him well by scalping four of Proteas wickets. As a result, South Africa managed just 118 runs in the first innings.

In reply, England too couldn’t get off to a good start as South African bowlers took perfect revenge by scalping regular wickets. However, England showed some resistance with Ollie Pope scoring a valorous half-century. However, none of the other batters could resist Proteas fiery bowling spell. As a result, England’s innings were wrapped for just 158 runs. Marco Jansen & Kagiso Rabada starred with the ball for Proteas as they returned with five & four wickets respectively.

In the second innings, the game became more intense as England’s bowling attack looked more lethal. England bowlers were in no mood of comprising & they didn’t allow the Proteas to settle on the crease at any point. Sarel Erwee, Keegan Petersen, and Elgar played quick cameos but their efforts went in vain as England bowlers didn’t allow them to set for ling. As a result, South Africa was bundled out for 169 runs, setting a meager 130 runs target for England to chase. For England, Stokes and Broad picked three wickets each, while Anderson and Robinson claimed 2 apiece.

England batters chased the target with Nine wickets in Hand

In reply, the target proved to be a cakewalk for England as the openers Zak Crawley & Alex Less stitched a 108-run stand to lay the foundation of England’s win. But South African bowlers lead the fightback by removing Lees for 39 runs off 73 balls. However, by that time the damage was already done as Crawley & Pope together guided England over the line without any loss of wickets. As a result, England clinched the match by nine wickets, thereby adding one more series win to their kitty.
