ENG vs SA 3rd Test: England & South Africa are all set to battle it out in the third & the decider Test of the Series on 8th September at Kennington Oval, London. The series is currently leveled at a 1-1 score, which means a thumping decider Test is on the plate for fans.
ENG vs SA 3rd Test: England Preview
The ‘Bazball team’ what cric-fans fondly calls the England Test team after their perfect turnaround in Test format, are heading into the decider clash after registering a massive innings & 85 runs win over the Proteas in the second Test. After suffering a humiliating an innings & 12 runs defeat in the first Test, England bounced back to level the scores by registering an innings & 85 runs win in the second Test.
The Newly appointed Captain of England’s Test team, Ben Stokes finally found his form in the second Test where he amassed 103 runs in 163 balls. It also marked Stokes’s first ton as a full-time Test team captain. The other star of the match was Ben Foakes who returned with scores of 113 runs. Bowlers too found their lost tune as Anderson (6 wickets), Robinson (5 wickets), and Stuart Broad(4 wickets) returned with crucial wickets to rattle South Africa’s batting attack. Special mention for Stokes who delivered with the ball as well scalping 4 wickets in the second Test. The England team would aim to continue their ‘bazball’ brand of cricket in the third Test & thereby clinch the series to shut down their critics.
South Africa Preview
Facing them is a strong & well-composed unit, South Africa. After registering a good win in the first Test they failed to get going in the second Test. South Africa’s inconsistent batting line-up would be their major concern as except for Rassie Van der Dussen (41) no one could actually cross the 40-run mark. Their batting failed miserably as they lost combined 20 wickets for 330 runs total in both innings. The likes of Dean Elgar, Keegan Petersen & Aiden Markram would now have to take the onus & deliver with the bat if they aim of winning the Third Test.
Their bowling attack looks settled with the likes of Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje, and Rabada all returning with crucial wickets. However, the Proteas went wrong when they excluded Jansen from the second Test & picked up Simon Harmer in Playing XI. Harmer couldn’t keep up with the team’s expectations after returning with just one scalp in 23 overs, conceding 73 runs. He might make a way for Jansen as Proteas couldn’t take any risk in the decider match. Meanwhile, other key bowlers of Proteas line-up such as Nortje (3), Rabada (1) & Keshav (1) all returned with wickets.
