ENG W vs SA W: A splendid century from Tammy Beaumont helped the hosts England to register another victory against South Africa as they sealed the series by 3-0. England Women defeated South Africa Women by 109 runs in the final ODI of the series.
Winning the toss and electing to field proved costly for South African skipper Sune Luus as England registered a mammoth total of 371/7 in the first innings. Right from the start, England Women have ascended over the Proteas bowlers and scored runs at a rapid pace. Openers Emma Lamb (65) and Tasmin Beaumont (119) added a massive 149 runs for the first wicket.
The dismissal of Lamb made no difference as in came Sophie Dunkley who settled in quickly alongside Beaumont as the two added 87 runs for the second wicket. Dunkley scored 51 runs before getting trapped to Tryon off de Klerk.
Beaumont’s dismissal brought skipper Heather Knight on the crease who stood alongside Dunkley and scored a crucial knock of 63 runs. The lower middle and the tail-end failed to play effective knocks as they managed to add only 13 runs to the total.
For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka was the pick of the bowlers as she registered a figure of 2/64. Ismail (1/54), de Klerk (1/87), and Mlaba (1/68) chipped in a wicket apiece.
Chasing a stupendous total of 372, South Africa was bundled out for 262 and fell short of 109 runs to gain a victory. Riding on to a solid start by Steyn (12) and Wolvaardt (56), South Africa scored 61 runs without losing a wicket. Steyn was then bowled by Dean that brought Goodall to the crease. Wolvaardt failed to stand alongside Goodall as she scored 24 runs to stabilize South Africa’s innings. Skipper Luus failed to hit the straps as she was dismissed for 9.
The highlight of South Africa’s innings was the marvelous 110-run partnership between Marizanne Kapp (62) and Chloe Tyron (70) for the fifth wicket. However, the duo failed to captivate on their performance as the tailend was cleaned by the fierce English bowling lineup.
For England, Charlotte Dean (3/42), Emma Lamb (3/42), and A Richards (3/35) starred in the bowling attack as they got through the defenses of the Proteas batters. Issy Wong chipped in with a single wicket. Tammy Beaumont was adjudged as the Player of the Match whereas Emma Lamb won the Player of the Series award.
