England appoints Jon Lewis as Women’s Team Head Coach

The former England Men’s Seamer & Coach, Jon lewis has been named as England Women’s Team New Head Coach. Lewis will fill in the shoes of Lisa Keightley who has stepped down from the post in September after serving three years in the role.

“It’s very exciting to have been appointed as head coach of the England Women’s team,” Lewis said. “It’s a new challenge, and one that I can’t wait to get stuck into. I’ve watched from a distance over the last few years and it’s clear that there are a lot of reasons to be optimistic about this team’s chances going forward.

A Glimpse of Jon Lewis Career Stint

Lewis has previous coaching stints with ECB as he has served as their elite bowling coach since 2021 supporting men’s team during Ashes 2021. Lewis who had also coached Young Lions will now take the charge of England Women’s team ahead of their limited overs tour of West Indies, just a few months after T20 World Cup 2023.

Lewis has featured for England in 15 matches during a lengthy playing career during which he moved from Gloucestershire to Surrey & then Sussex. He retired in 2014 to become Sussex’s bowling coach & was promoted to the post of Assistant Coach at Hove before moving to take the charge of U-19s in 2018. He is understood to have defeated a number of candidates to take up the role including namesake Jon lewis, the former Durham Head Coach who has recently worked with the batters in England Women’s Team.

ECB’s Director of England Women’s Cricket, Jonathn Finch said, “We’re really pleased to be able to appoint Jon as the new head coach of England Women following a thorough and competitive recruitment process. We set out to find a head coach with a range of experiences to help lead an exciting group of players across all formats and I am excited with what the future holds with Jon in the role.”

Meanwhile, England is all set to announce squads for ODIs & T20Is in West Indies next week. There comes a major boost for England Women’s team with heather Knight returning to the setup after recovering from hip surgery udnerwent during the summer. On the other hand, Nat Sciver who had missed England’s series against India in September due to mental health issues will return for the West Indies series.
