England Women announces a 15-Member squad for Commonwealth Games 2022

England Women announces a 15-member squad for the upcoming Commonwealth games 2022. Teenager Alice Capsey receives her maiden call-up to the England squad for the marquee event. However, what comes as a surprise for all is the exclusion of Tammy Beaumont from England’s CWG 2022 squad.

Teenager Capsey who was an integral part of the Oval Invincible’s title triumph in the inaugural edition of the Hundred tournament after finishing as Oval’s joint second-highest run-scorer & third highest wicket-taker makes a cut to the 15-member England squad. Her standout performance in the Hundred 2021 was 59 runs knock off 41 balls against London Spirit at Lord’s.

On the other hand, Issy Wong who claimed three wickets in her ODI debut match against South Africa Women on Friday has also been included in England’s squad. England’s star pacer, Katherine Brunt who announced her retirement from Tests earlier this year has been named in England’s 15-member squad. This same squad will play against South Africa women’s team in the T20I series of the ongoing multi-format series beginning on July 21 at Chelmsford. England Women is currently leading the series with six points earned from two ODI wins.

Meanwhile, Tammy Baeumonth England’s prolific batter has been excluded from the 15-member squad due to her ongoing lean patch. In 2022, Beaumont has made just 34 runs in two T20Is while her ODI average for the year (28.21 in 14 games) has dipped below 40 for the first time since she broke into the side in 2016.

“We’ve picked what we think is our best T20 squad,” Lisa Keightley, England’s head coach, said. “We’ve got one eye on taking our T20 game forward, but we do believe this squad gives us the best chance of success in the Commonwealth Games – and that’s something to be really excited by.”

The Commonwealth Games will begin at Edgbaston with England’s first fixture against Sri Lanka on Saturday, July 30. Before the CWG 2022, England would play the T20I series against South Africa, starting at Chelmsford on Thursday, 21 July.
