Former South Africa all-rounder, Farhaan Behardien announced his retirement from International Cricket on Tuesday, putting a full-stop to an illustrious 18-year-long career. Behardien who made his first-class debut in 2004 took to social media to announce his decision.
After making his first-class debut in 2004, Behardien had to wait for eight years to don the national jersey & play for South Africa. However after making his debut in National team behardien became a regular face in limited overs format. He played 59 ODIs, and 38 T20Is for Proteas scoring 1592 runs & scalping 17 wickets. He was a part of South Africa’s 2012, 2014 & 2016 T20 World Cup Squad as well as the 2015 Cricket World Cup. He had the opportunity to lead South Africa during the Sri Lanka home T20I series held in January 2017. He had last featured for South Africa in a T20I fixture against Australia in Carrara in November 2018.

Announcing his decision to retire Behardien said, “The dust has settled a bit. Been pretty emotional the last couple of weeks. 18 years have come and gone. 560 pro games across all formats, including 97 caps for my country, 17 trophies in the cabinet and blessed to have played in 4 World Cups, Thanks to my family and friends who showered me with immense support.”
He further thanked his coaches, support staff, and teammates who have supported him throughout his career. He also thanked his team Titans for giving him an opportunity to display his skills in front of the world. He also extended thanks to the fans who have supported him during his bad times & helped him to live with his dreams.
Further shedding light on his 18 years long career, Behardien said, “To be honest it wasn’t easy. The good stuff rarely is, but as a result, I haven’t “worked” a day in 18 years, cause it was my passion and I loved the graft. Feet up for a bit and on to the next challenge. Much love.”
