Georgia Wareham named in Australia’s T20 World Cup Squad

Australia announces 15-member squad for Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 & there comes good news for Australia Women’s team as their star leg-spinner Georgia Wareham will return to the squad after a long injury layoff. The announces 15-member squad will also lock horns with Pakistan in a three-match T20I series which will be played from January 24 to January 29.

Wareham who hasn’t played a T20I game since October 2021 after suffering an ACL tear has been included in the squad in place of leg-spinner Amanda jade Wellington. She has been added to Australia’s squad on the basis of her performance for Victoria in the domestic competition last week. Meanwhile, Meg Lanning will return back to action after taking a long six-month break from the game. Except for these two players, the rest of the squad is the same that has traveled to India for their previous T20I assignment.

“It’s always tough to narrow a squad down to just 15 players, but we’re confident we’ve picked a well-balanced side that’s well placed for the series against Pakistan and ready to challenge for a third consecutive T20 title,” national selector Shawn Flegler said.

Fledger further said that the management is happy with the return of Meg Lanning & Wareham Georgia to the squad as the duo adds experience to the team which is a much-needed component during crucial tournaments.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Nicola Carey & young batter Phoebe Litchfield who was a part of India’s T20I series-winning squad in December have been excluded from Australia’s T20 World Cup Squad. While wicket-keeper batter Alyssa Healy who led the tour & suffered a calf strain during the fourth T20I is expected to attain full fitness & feature in the 15-member T20 World Cup squad. Graham & Garth retain their place in the T20I squad after making their debut in Mumbai in December 2022.

Australia will begin their Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 campaign against New Zealand Women on February 12 before facing Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & South Africa in the rest of the fixtures.
