Glenn Maxwell to miss IPL 2023 due to a leg injury, will return before next season

RCB’s star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will miss IPL 2023 due to a leg injury. However, he would return back before the beginning of the next IPL season confirms, RCB Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson. For the unversed Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of cricket for an extended period after fracturing his left leg in a freak accident at a birthday party in Melbourne on Saturday.

“There is a little concern with Maxwell, heading to the retention phase with a broken leg. We wish him a speedy recovery. As per the information with us he will return back before the next IPL season,” said Hesson in a video shared by RCB on Wednesday.

Coming to Maxwell’s injury, he fractured his left fibula at his friend’s birthday bash on Saturday. Following this, he has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against England beginning on November 17 & would need to undergo a lengthy rehabilitation for the same.

A Glimpse of Glenn Maxwell IPL Career

Maxwell is not in his best form in the T20I format in the ongoing calendar year. In 19 matches he has played he scored 315 runs at an average of 19.68 in 18 innings. He could register just one-half century with his best score being unbeaten 54*. However, he had displayed a good performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup scoring 118 runs at an average of 39.33 with a strike rate of 161.64 & a fifty. He has also scalped three wickets for Australia. But his efforts went in vain as they failed to qualify in the Super 12 stage.

Talking about IPL, Glenn Maxwell has been RCB’s star attraction even since he was bought by the franchise in 2021. In 28 matches he has played, he has scored 814 runs at an average of 33.91 with seven half-centuries & nine wickets on his name. During IPL 2022, Maxwell has amassed 277 runs in 12 innings including a fifty at a strike rate of 167.87 & an average of 27.70.

In the IPL 2023 Retention, RCB has retained their core squad with West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford being the only big name to be released. They have traded Jason Behrendorff to Mumbai Indians thereby retaining tehri core players such as Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Niesh Karthik, Wanindu Hasaranga, Shahbaz Ahmed, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj & Josh Hazlewood. The youngsters in face of Rajat Patidar, Suyash Prabudessai, Anuj Rawat & Finn Allen would provide them valuable support.
