HEA vs STR: Brisbane Heat ousted Adelaide Strikers by six runs to register another stunning victory at the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League 2022-23. With this, Brisbane Heat recorded their first victory of the season and climbed to the fourth position. Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers suffered their first defeat in the championship and continue to lead the standings.
Winning the toss at the iconic Gabba Stadium, Brisbane Heat skipper Jimmy Peirson made an exemplary decision to bat first. Batting first, Brisbane Heat registered a decent 166/9 total in their first innings of 20 overs.
Brisbane Heat was off to a sluggish start as they lost ace frontline batsmen Colin Munro (1) and Matt Renshaw (2) in quick succession to struggle at 12/2. Max Bryant (46) and Sam Billings (79) then anchored a sizzling rescue and put up a crucial 52-run stand for the third wicket.
The middle-order and tailend failed to make the best of their opportunity and did not score big. However, it was the heroics of Billings who continued to capitalize on his innings and take Brisbane past the 160-run mark.
For Adelaide Strikers, Matt Short (3/14) and Wes Agar (3/38) starred in the bowling attack and bowled marvelously to thump Heat’s batting attack. Peter Siddle (2/45) claimed a couple of wickets whereas Henry Thorton (1/37) chipped in a wicket apiece.
HEA vs STR: Strikers succumbed in front of Heat’s lethal bowling attack
Chasing a modest total of 167 runs, Adelaide Strikers did not get the start they had wanted. Weatherald (0), Short (3), Hose (8), and Lynn (12) failed to stay on the crease as the Strikers were trailing at 38/4.
Middle-order batsmen Colin de Grandhomme (37) and Thomas Kelly (43) staged a decisive partnership of 73 runs for the fifth wicket to inch Strikers closer to a victory. However, their astounding efforts went in vain as the lower-middle order could not sustain the winning coup, and the Strikers were restricted to 160/9 and lost the match by 6 runs.
For Brisbane Heat, Mark Steketee (4/34) was simply commendable in the bowling attack to anchor a perfect victory. Michael Neser (2/23) grabbed a couple of crucial wickets whereas Kunhemann (1/17), Whiteley (1/13), and Bazley (1/44) scaled a wicket apiece.
