Overview of the “International Cricket Council (ICC) Player of the Month” Award

The International Cricket Council launched the ‘Player of the Month’ Award for both men & women in January 2021, to recognize & reward the best performances across formats of International Cricket throughout the year.

How does the voting system work?

Full members, as well as associated members, are considered for the shortlisting process. Three nominees of either category are shortlisted based on their performances from the first day to the last day of each calendar month.

If a particular test match ends before the final day of the calendar month then that match will be considered for that particular month. For instance, if a test match starts on 29th March 2021 & ends on 1st April 2021, then the match performances are considered for the February vote & not for the January vote.

With the help of ‘ICC statistician’ three men & three women nominees of the ‘Player of the Month’ Award are compiled by the International Cricket Council (ICC) management. Their details are shared along with key statistics & their performance highlights during that particular month.

The list of nominees & accompanying commentary are forwarded to the Voting Academy & are officially announced on the ICC digital platforms.
