The ICC on Sunday announced the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month Award for the month of July. The ‘Player of the month’ awards was started earlier this year to recognize & reward the best international performances in both men & women cricketers across all formats of Cricket.
“The nominees for the monthly men’s awards this time are Shakib-al-Hasan of Bangladesh, Mitchell Marsh (Aus), & Hayden Walsh Jr (West Indies) while Hayden Matthews(West Indies), Fatima Sana(Pakistan) & Stafanie Taylor (West Indies) figure in the women’s shortlists”, stated an Official ICC release.
Let’s have a look at the Nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for July:
Experienced all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan of Bangladesh has achieved laurels in all three formats of cricket as bangaldesh won the series against Zimbabwe last month. Shakib-Al-Hasan displayed the heroics with the bat by scoring an unbeaten 96 runs in the second ODI against Zimbabwe & guided his side to a three wickets win at the Harare Sports Club. In the T20Is, Hasan scalped three wickets at an economy rate of seven to help Bangladesh clinch the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Mitchell Marsh (Australia)
Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh emerged as the standout performer for Australia in the ODIs & T20Is series against West Indies held in the month of July. In the T20Is Marsh starred with the bat by scoring 219 runs with a stunning strike rate of 152.08 & scalped eight wickets at an economy of 6.76 which made him the leading run-scorer & wicket-taker for Australia in the T2) series.
Hayden Walsh (West Indies)
Leg spinner Hayden Walsh Jr played three ODIs against Australia last month where he scalped seven wickets with an economy rate of 4.14. Walsh starred with the ball in the T20I series against Australia by scalping twelve wickets in five matches at an average of 11.66, making him the leading wicket-taker for the West Indies squad in both the T20I s & ODIs against Australia.
Nominees for ICC Women’s Player of the Month for July
Hayley Matthews (West Indies)
West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews scored her second century & scalped two wickets as West Indies registered a series-clinching eight wickets win over Pakistan in the month of July. Matthews was also named as the Player of the Series against Pakistan.
Fatima Sana (Pakistan)
Fatima Sana was the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in the ODI series against West Indies women. She was also a joint captain for Pakistan in the T20I series against West Indies. Fatima registered a maiden five-wicket haul to guide Pakistan to beat West Indies by 22 runs via the DLS method in the fifth ODI match of the series.
Stafanie Taylor (West Indies)
Captain Stafanie Taylor starred with both bat & ball as West Indies won both the ODIs & T20Is against paksitan in the month of July. In the four ODIs against Pakistan, Stafanie scored 175 runs with a strike rate of 79.18 & scalped three wickets with an economy rate of 3.72. Stafanie Taylor was on the top of the ICC Women’s ODI rankings list for batters & all-rounders released in July.
The shortlisted players of both men’s & women’s categories will be voted by an Independent International Cricket Council (ICC) Voting Academy and fans across the globe & the nominee receiving the highest number of votes in both men’s & women’s categories will receive the ICC player of the month award for the July.
