ICC Test Rankings: Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne dethrones Joe Root to become the World’s No 1 Test Batsman in the latest ICC Rankings. He achieved the remarkable feat by scoring a glittering ton in the pink ball test. Since his test debut in Ashes 2019, Marnus has grown to become the number three batsman for his country. Marnus labuschagne is accompanied by Steve Smith, Kaen Williamson & Rohit Sharma in the top five rankings list.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has dropped down to the seventh spot in the latest ICC rankings updates. This development comes as bad news for India’s test captain who has to make break the clutches & prove his mettle as a batsman in upcoming India vs South Africa series.
Currently, Virat is undergoing a century drought as he has failed to score even a single century in his last 21 innings. Since then he could only manage to drill the scoreboard by bringing up five half-centuries in test format. His last test century came against Bangaldesh on November 22, 2019, since then he is yet to score a ton in the longest format of the game. His average has dipped in the last couple of years as compared to his career average.
Meanwhile, for England, Joe Root has risen to his career-best ratings in the all-rounders’ rankings list by moving up by two spots to reach No 10 position by scoring 86 runs & scalping three wickets in the second tets of the Ashes series. He remained England’s best batter in the last two matches with 86 and 89 runs respectively but couldn’t secure his top spot in the Batting rankings list.
ICC bowlers Rankings list: Labuschagne’s teammate Mitchell Starc made it into the top 10 list for test bowlers after returning with figures of 6/80 in the second Ashes test which included a four-wicket haul in the first innings that has helped to limit England to 236 runs total. His heroics with the ball helped Satrc to move up to the ninth spot on the list. Starc also contributed with the bat by scoring 39* & 19 that helped him to climb up to the 6th spot in the all-rounder rankings list.
