ICC Test Rankings: India returns to top spot after an enthralling series win over the Black Caps

India reclaimed the top spot in the latest ICC Test Rankings after winning the two-match test series against New Zealand on Monday. India defeated New Zealand by massive 372 runs in the Mumbai test on the fourth day after drawing teh first test in Kanpur. By clinching the two-match test series against Blackcaps, India took revenge for the massive defeat they suffered in the WTC Final in June.

India now has 124 rating points & is placed first in the ICC Test Rankings followed by New Zealand (121), Australia (108), England (107), Pakistan (92), South Africa (88), Sri Lanka (83), West Indies (75), Bangladesh (49) and Zimbabwe (31).On the World Test Championships (WTC) table, India is third with 42 points and a win percentage of 58.33.

Sri Lanka leads the WTC Standings by registering two wins in two test matches while Pakistan is placed on the secodn spot with a win percentage of 66.66. India’s star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin scalped eight wickets & registered the 300th wicket on Indian soil as India beats New Zealand in the second test.

New Zealand who started their day four on 140-5 in the chase of 540 runs were bundled out for 167 before lunch in the Mumbai test. Indian opener Mayank Agarwal made 150 in India’s first-innings total of 325 and then top-scored with 62, with the hosts declaring at 276-7 on day three.

India’s captain Virat Kohli who returned from a short break to lead team India applauded team India’s efforts by terming their performance as “clinical”. The Indian Captain also achieved a major milestone in international cricket on day four of the second test. As the hosts registered a mammoth 372-run win over New Zealand in the second Test in Mumbai, Kohli became the first player to be a part of at least 50 wins in each format of the game.

“Congratulations @imVkohli. The first player with 50 international wins in each format of the game,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted following India’s series win over the Kiwis.
