New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson regains the top spot in the ICC Men’s Test rankings for batsmen released on Wednesday. Williamson replaces Australia’s Steve Smith at No 1 spot following his vital knocks in the final of the ICC WTC Final against India which guided the Black Caps to win the WTC title by massive eight wickets.
Williamson has scored 49 runs in the first innings & 52 runs in the second innings of a rain-affected WTC final at Southampton. Williamson’s vital knock helped him to score 901 points & take 10 points lead over Steve Smith with 891 rating points. Currently, Steve Smith is placed on the second spot in the Test Rankings list. Two weeks ago, Williamson had lost the top spot to Steve Smith but now he has regained his position which he had first grabbed in 2015 November during a series against Australia.
India Captain Virat Kohli retains his fourth spot in the test batsmen rankings list behind the third-ranked Australian batsmen Marnus Labuschagne. England Captain Joe Root grabs the fifth spot with 797 rating points. Rohit Sharma held his sixth spot while Rishabh pant has dropped down to the seventh position. India’s Vice-Captain Ajinkya Rahane has advanced up by three places to reach the 13th position in the ICC Test Rankings.
Veteran batter Ross Taylor who scored an unbeaten 47 runs during a 96 runs partnership with Williamson has advanced up by three places to occupy the 14th position in the Test Rankings while Devon Conway who scored a half-century in the first innings of the WTC Final has moved up by 18 spots to reach the 42nd position.
New Zealand bowlers have also made positive gains in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers. Kyle Jamieson who was awarded the ‘Player of the Match Award’ in the WTC Final continued his stupendous form in Test Cricket. Jamieson’s 5 scalps for 31 & 2 scalps for 30 have helped him to move up to his career-best 13th position. On the other hand, Trent Boult who has scalped five wickets in the WTC final has advanced up by three places to the 13th position after producing knocks of 49 & 15 runs in the WTC Final.
Pat Cummins retains his top spot in the Test Rankings for bowlers while Ravichandran Ashwin occupies second place. New Zealand’s Tim Southee & Neil Wagner grabs third & fifth spots in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers. Ravindra Jadeja who was on the number one spot in the all-rounder test rankings has lost his spot to West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder. Jadeja occupies the third spot while Ben Stokes occupies the second position in the all-rounder’s Rankings list.
