ICC Test Rankings: Kyle Jamieson surpasses Jasprit Bumrah in latest Rankings Updates

ICC released its latest weekly test rankings update on Wednesday & New Zealand’s star bowler Kyle Jamieson gained from the latest update. He has replaced Jasprit Bumrah to grab the ninth position in the ICC Test rankings list for bowlers. Jamieson moved up by six spots to grab the ninth .position on the bowling charts by scalping six wickets in the Kanpur Test against India.

Kyle Jamieson bowled stupendously at Gren Park to dismiss three batters each in both the innings. The right-arm pacer now has 776 rating points to his name, 13 more than the 10th-placed Jasprit Bumrah.

Along with Bumrah, the bowlers like Neil Wagner, James Anderson, and Kagiso Rabada dropped one spot each in the latest Rankings Update. Even Ravindra Jadeja moved up by two spots to reach 19th position among the bowlers with five wickets in the match & moved up by one place to reach the second position in the all-rounders’ rankings list. Ravindra Jadeja is the third-ranked all-rounder & 79th among the batters list.

The one who has surpassed all the bowling greats in the latest rankings updates on the bowling list is none other than Pakistan’s rising spinner Shaheen Afridi who has scalped seven wickets in the first Test against Bangladesh. Afridi has joined Pat Cummins, Ravichandran Ashwin, Tim Southee, and Josh Hazlewood in the top 5 of the ICC Test Rankings for Bowlers.

Even Hasan Ali is at his career-best position after finishing with a seven-wicket haul that included a five-wicket in the first innings. Hasan Ali has moved up to five places to reach 11th position. His previous best figure in tests was 14 which he had achieved in May this year.

Coming to ICC Rankings for Batters, Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli retained their spots in the top 10 list.  Tom Latham has climbed to the ninth spot after two impressive knocks against India in the Kanpur Test. Kane Williamson has slipped to number three following a poor showing in the first test. Tim Southee has also gained 15 rating points to reach just one spot below the second-placed R Ashwin who scored 840 points after his eight-wicket haul.

For India Debutant Shreyas Iyer’s gleaming knocks of 105 & 65 helped him to enter the rankings lost on 74th position while Shubman Gill moved up by six places to 66th position & Wriddhiman Saha moved up by nine places to 99th position are the other who earned positive gains from the latest Rankings Updates.

Pakistan batters have also gained in the latest updates. Though Abid Ali missed a century in each innings his scores of 133 & 91 helped him to move up by 27 spots to reach 20th position. Even Abdullah Shafique enter the rankings at 83rd position with scores of 52 & 73.

Sri Lanka who has won their first match of the ICC WTC against West Indies at the Galle reached on top of the table. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne’s stunning knocks of 147 & 83 have lifted him four places to the seventh position which is just one place below his career-best six-position he attained in August 2019. Former Sri Lankan Captain Angelo Matthews moved up by two places to 23rd position & Dinesh Chandimal moved up by four places to 46th position.

Meanwhile, the Indian team will come into a face-off with New Zealand in the final test of the two-match test series beginning from December 3 in Mumbai. Notably, Jaspirt Bumrah is missing from India’s Test squad as the Indian team selectors have decided to give him rest ahead of the crucial South Africa tour which will begin later in December.
