Despite England’s poor run in the Ashe series, James Anderson has climbed up by three spots to reach the fifth position in the ICC Men’s test bowling Rankings update. The star bowler has joined Pat Cummins, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Tim Southee in the Top 5. Anderson’s significant gain came after he scalped seven wickets in the last two Ashes series at an average of 14.14.
It was Anderson who drew first blood & dismissed David Warner on the cusp of stumps on day one of the third test after England was bowled out for 185 runs. The next day he bowled another rewarding spell & was rewarded with the prized wicket of Steve Smith. There was no stopping for Anderson who later scalped the crucial wicket of Marcus Harris for 76 runs. Anderson then went ahead to break the blooming 34 run stand between Pat Cummins & Mitchell Starc by scalping the prized wicket of Cummins & ensuring that Australia didn’t run away with a massive lead.
Amongst the other bowlers, Scott Boland directly moved up at the 74th spot in the test bowling rankings. He returned with the player of the match figures of 6/7 in the second innings helping Australia to secure an innings victory & retain the Ashes 2021-2022 series. Mitchell Starc also made remarkable gains in the Recent Rankings Update.

Mitchell Starc was rewarded with significant gains in the recent rankings update. Mitchell Starc’s stunning performance helped him to move up among the top 10 in the all-rounder’s Rankings list.
Mitchell Starc moved up by a spot to reach the 5th spot with 321 points in the latest all-rounders rankings update by replacing Ben Stokes.
Mitchell Starc was lethal with the ball by scalping five wickets across two innings in the Boxing Day test in MCG. Starc has scored 117 runs and picked up 14 wickets in the three Tests played so far. Meanwhile, Stokes has aggregated 101 runs and scalped only four wickets in three matches.
He also made a handy contribution of 24* that helped to extend Australia’s lead to 82. Meanwhile, Jason Holder, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shakib Al Hasan continue to be the top four all-rounders in the ICC Test rankings.
ICC test Batters Rankings:
Marcus Harris who had a difficult time in the series until the Boxing Day test where he scored 76 runs moved up by 29 spots & entered into the top 10 in the latest rankings update for batters. Harris is currently placed at the No 83 spot in the latest rankings update.
