The ICC on Wednesday announced Jos Buttler, Wanindu Hasaranga, Mitchell Marsh & Mohammad Rizwan as the four nominees for ICC Men’s T20I Player of the Year Award. The ICC Player of the Year awards will recognize the achievements & feats in Cricket over the past year.
Let’s have a look at the achievements of the nominees of the ICC men’s T20I Player of the Year Award:
- Mohammad Rizwan: Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rziwan ruled the shortest format of cricket by becoming the highest run scorer in T20 format for the year 2021. Amassing 1,326 runs in 29 matches at an average of 73.66 & a strike rate of 134.89. Apart form his heroics with the bat he was astounding wicket-keeper behind the stumps playing a major role in Pakistan’s run to the semi finals during the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 where he ended as the highest run scorer.
- Wanindu Hasaranga: Sri Lanka’s star cricketer Wanindu Hasaranga established himself as one of the best spinners in T20 format while being able to contribute with the bat as well. A consistent performer throughout 2021, Hasaranga displayed spell bounding performance during the T20 World Cup 2021.Hasaranga ended 2021 as the leading wicket-taker by scalping 16 wickets & also played some crucial knocks with the bat such as a blistering 71 against Ireland. He was a lethal player for the opponents as Sri lanka impressed everyone during the tournament with its young & exhilarating team at place.
- Micthell Starc: Australia’s success at the T20 World Cup 2021 begin with their decision to move Mitchell Marsh up at No 3 spot in the Batting order, instead of keeping him down at the lower order. Australia rose to success all thanks to Mitchell Starc’s heroics with the bat as he proved to be the best batter for Australia in the shortest format of cricket. He was at his best from against lethal spin attack when it came to rotating the attack. Mitchell Starc helped Australia to win their maiden T20 World Cup 2021 by smashing 185 runs in six matches at an average of 61.66 at a healthy strike rate of 146.82. Starc’s match winning knock in the finals helped Australia to beat WTC Champions New Zealand & add maiden T20 World Cup title to their kitty.
- Jos Buttler: England’s wicket-keeper Jos Buttler started this year spectacularly by hitting two blistering knocks against India. Jos Buttler performed the role of a key batter for England during in the T20 World Cup 2021. He didn’t disappoint his team in the tournament & made sure to capitalize on good start as an opener. His bet two knocks came in two consecutive fixtures first against Australia & then against Sri Lanka. He ended the World Cup as a leading run scorer for England by scoring 269 runs as their stint was ended by New Zealand in the T20 World Cup semi-finals.
