ICC names highest No of Female Officials for U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023

ICC names highest No of Female Officials for U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023

ICC on Thursday named 15 match Officials for the warm-up & league stage fixtures of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa. What comes as a path-breaking decision by ICC is that nine women officials have been named for officiating the marquee event which makes it the highest number of female match Officials to be appointed for an ICC event.

Twelve umpires & three match referees will officiate the tournament which will be played across four venues in two host cities Benoni & Potchefstroom.  Former Sri Lanka Women’s team Captain, Vanessa De Silva leads the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees which includes former Bangladesh International cricketers Neeyamur Rashid & Owen Chirombe.

The tournament will also witness four members of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Umpires- Wayne Knights, Virender Sharma, Ahmad Pakteen & Shahid Saikat in different fixtures. Members of the International Panel of ICC development Umpires who will officiate the fixtures include former Sri Lanka player Dedunu de silva, Maria Abbott, Kerrin Klaaste, Sarah Bartlett, Jasmine Naeem, Lisa McCabe, Candace La Borde, and Dembanevana.

The Match Officials for the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup semifinals & finals will be named after the conclusion of the league phase.

Adrian Griffith, ICC’s Senior Manager of Umpires & referees said, “We are pleased to announce the Match Officials who will be officiating the historic ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. We are happy to see that this group of officials reflects the work we have been doing to help in the development of women’s sport as part of ICC’s global development strategy.”

She further said that the officials named for the U19 Women’s World Cup 2023 have attained a good position in the World of Cricket & they are excited to see them script history when they will officiate fixtures in U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa.
