The latest International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings have been released which see the majority of the players achieving their career-best positions. Star English batsman, Joe Root has toppled Australian stalwart Marnus Labuschagne in the Test rankings to claim the top spot. Root has been in the witch-hunt throughout the ongoing New Zealand Test series.
Joe Root smashed successive centuries in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand and his mind-blowing knock of 115 & 176 runs helped him to get a rating of 897, surpassing Marnus Labuschagne to claim the top spot. Joe Root previously held the first ranking in December 2021 and has retained the spot for 163 days since 2015.
Steve Smith (1506 days), Virat Kohli (469 days) and Kane Williamson (245 days), and Babar Azam are other batsmen who constitute the top five positions in the batters list. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell made significant progress in his rankings as he climbed 33 places to the 17th position after producing brilliant scores of 69 and 190 against England.
In the Test bowling rankings, Trent Boult was the highlight as he climbed four places to the ninth position after a five-wicket haul against England. Tim Southee and Kylie Jamieson were dropped down to the sixth and thirteenth positions respectively while Bumrah (3rd), Afridi (4th), and Rabada (5th) climbed a spot each.
On the other hand, the latest ICC ODI ranking has been a breakthrough for Pakistani batsman Imam-ul-Haq who has jumped past Indian batting sensation Virat Kohli to grab the second position in the batters list. Imam scored 199 runs with three half-centuries in Pakistan’s home ODI series against West Indies which helped him attain 20 points to achieve his career-best rating of 815.
Meanwhile, Pakistani captain Babar Azam continues to lead the ODI rankings after displaying consistent performances throughout the fixtures. He has made 50 plus scores in six of his last seven international matches. In their home ODI series against West Indies also Babar scored 181 runs in three matches. New Zealand pacer Trent Boult continues to hold the top spot in ICC ODI bowling rankings. However, Boult will face stiff resistance as Hazelwood (2nd) and Matt Henry (3rd) have climbed a spot each. In the ICC ODI all-rounders rankings, Oman’s Zeeshan Maqsood is the biggest gainer who moved 13 places to occupy 10th position after a spectacular show in the World Cup League 2.
