ICC T20I Rankings: Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan becomes the new No.1 T20I batter in the ICC Rankings, replacing Babar Azam at the No.1 Spot. Rizwan’s match-winning knocks of 78* off 57 balls against Hong Kong in the group stage fixture of the Asia Cup & 71 off 51 against India in the Super 4 stage helped Rizwan to reach his career-best 815 points & occupy the top position in the T20I Rankings stand. With 192 runs in his kitty, Rizwan is also the leading run-scorer in the tournament so far.
Sri Lankan players have also made notable gains in the latest ICC T20I Rankings update. Opener Pathum Nissanka moved up to the No 8 spot on the back of his good performances in the Asia Cup 2022. He had scored 20, 35, and 52 in his last three matches, with the half-century powering Sri Lanka to victory against India in a chase of 174 on Tuesday and taking the team closer to the final spot.
Kusal Mendis made a big move in batters Rankings list
Along with Nissanka his opening partner, Kusal Mendis too made positive gains in the Rankings update. Mendis moved up by 63 places to occupy the 41st position after a solid 57 off 37 balls. Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka (up 11 places to 39th) and middle-order batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa (up 31 places to 68th) too have made big progress in the T20I Rankings Update.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav dropped by one spot to the fourth position in the T20I Rankings update for batters. Rohit Sharma moved up to 13th position after scoring 72 off 41 against Sri Lanka. Virat Kohli who has been experiencing a downfall in the rankings has made a positive gain in the Latest ICC T20I Rankings update. He moved up to 29th place after his 44-ball 60 against Pakistan.
Afghan batters too were on the gaining side in the latest T20I Rankings update. Batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who smashed a 45-ball 84, albeit in a losing cause against Sri Lanka in the Super 4 clash, also gained 14 places to move to the 15th position.
Among ICC T20I Rankings for Bowlers, off-spinner Sri Lanka’s star off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana gained five spots to be No. 8, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman rose three places to sixth. He is the joint highest wicket-taker in the Asia Cup along with Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz with seven scalps from three games, as of Wednesday.
ICC ODI Rankings: Williamson-Warner among the Gainers
The latest ICC ODI Rankings also take into account ongoing Australia vs New Zealand ODI series. Australia’s David Warner moved down by one spot to the sixth position while New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson jumped into the top 10 after the completion of the first ODI match between both teams. Williamson moved up by one spot on the back of his scintillating knock of 45 runs produced during the first of the three ODIs between both teams.
Among bowlers, Australia’s Mitchell Starc and leg-spinner Adam Zampa moved to 12th and 18th places respectively.
