The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest edition of the Women ODI and T20I rankings. Veteran Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami marked her final international match against England in the recently concluded series and finished her remarkable career in the fifth position.
Goswami failed to capitalize on her stellar performance in the final series of her career as she managed to scalp only three wickets in the three matches of the series. However, the senior pacer emerged to be the most economical bowler in the series with a bankable economy rate of 3.0.
Major changes were observed in the ICC Women ODI Rankings after an exemplary clean sweep by Indian Women in the series against England Women. Indian Women scripted history by registering their maiden whitewash on England soil and recording a series victory against the home side after 15 years.
Frontline Indian batters Harmanpreet Kaur (221) and Smriti Mandhana (181) were the leading run scorers in the series. Owing to their vital and mesmerizing performances, Kaur climbed four places to the 5th spot whereas Mandhana moved up a spot to the 6th position in the batting rankings.
In the bowling rankings, India’s Renuka Singh jumped a fascinating thirty-five positions to hold the 35th spot after scaling eight wickets in the series. England pacer Sophie Eccelstone continued to lead the standings even after a decent performance. Kate Cross who grabbed seven wickets jumped three spots to the 7th position.
Charlie Dean was the only significant athlete who climbed six spots to the 13th position in the all-rounder rankings. Elsewhere, the West Indies-New Zealand series also turned the tables in the rankings. Caribbean all-rounder Hayley Matthews scored 88 runs and chipped five wickets to overtake Ellyse Perry, Nat Sciver, and Marizanne Kapp to ascend the throne and lead the all-rounder rankings. Along with Matthews, Amelia Kerr who top scored the series with 98 runs moved up four places to the 11th position.
ICC Women T20I Rankings
Not much difference was observed in the ICC Women T20I rankings. Though Bangladesh & Ireland qualified for Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers, it was Thailand players who made positive gains on the Rankings. Natthakan Chatham and Boochatham were the notable gainers on Rankings. Chanthan amassed 144 runs which helped her to move up to 14th position while Boochatham too scalped eight wickets to tie at the 14th spot with Chantham. Zimbabwe’s Sharne Mayers too made an upward gain on the Points Table by moving three spots to the 21st position.
