Sharjah Warriors signed up Marcus Stoinis for the inaugural edition of the ILT20 league starting on January 13. Stoinis becomes the second Australian cricketer to sign up for the ILT20 League after Chris Lynn. For the unversed, Lynn will join the Gulf Giants franchise for the inaugural edition of the league after playing 11 matches for Adelaide Strikers in the ongoing BBL 2022-23.
Whether Stoinis will join Lynn after playing a few BBL matches or will feature in ILT20 right from the beginning of the league is still doubtful. But as per the reports with Warriors lying at the bottom of the BBL Points Table, there are chances that Stoinis will join ILT20 after the conclusion of the league stage fixtures of BBL on January 25. But with five teams heading into the summit clash, there are chances that the Stars could still qualify for the knockout fixtures.
“It’s a massive opportunity for me personally to notch up some crucial playtime at a tournament like this in the UAE ahead of a busy year that’s going to be full of cricket,” Stoinis said in a statement.
He further said that franchise leagues are proliferating in the international arena & he is privileged to be a part of a team like Sharjah warriors in ILT20’s inaugural edition.
Those who are unaware of Stoinis astounding achievements let us tell you he is one of the best finishers in Australia’s T20 team & has played a vital role in T20 World Cup 2021 title win. In T20 World Cup 2022, Stoinis smashed 59 runs off 18 balls in their league-stage fixture against Sri Lanka in Perth. He made a slow start to his BBL Campaign after suffering from COVID-19 at the beginning of the tournament but he bounced back against Adelaide Strikers by scoring 74 runs off 35 balls. At Warriors, Stoinis will join top players of the T20 format such as Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali, Dawid Malan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz & Evin Lewis.
