Inaugural SA20 League all set to begin on January 10, 2023

The inaugural SA20 league is all set to kickstart on January 10, 2023. Cricket South Africa has finally unveiled the dates of its brainchild T20 league, which is just 100 days away from commencement. SA20 league is all set to kickstart from January 10, 2023, with six teams all set to participate in the league. Six teams namely, MI Cape Town, Durban Super Giants, Johannesburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape will participate in the lucrative league. Notably, all six teams are owned by the IPL franchise owners.

The inaugural SA20 league would be a star-studded affair

Each team will feature 17 players with seven overseas players permitted in the line-up. All the franchisees made smart moves by signing big names of World Cricket in the SA20 Players Auction held on September 19. Tristan Stubbs was the most expensive player in the Auction. Sunrisers franchise brought his services for a whopping 9.2 million. Sunrisers further embellished their line-up by fetching the services of Marco Jansen at a whopping 6.1 million & Sisanda Magala at R5.4 million. Pretorious Capitals who just like Sunrisers entered into the Auction with a big purse of 28.05 million made some notable gains by signing two power-hitters Rilee Rossouw for R 6.9 million & Wayne Parnell for R 5.6 million. Chennai Super Kings owned Joburg Super Kings tried to sign Sisanda Magala but after failing to do so they went with the signing of South Africa’s top uncapped player, Donavon Ferreira for R 5.5 million.

MI cape Town didn’t give up & break the shackles to sign South Africa’s stand-out players, Rassie Van Der Dussen, George Linge & Duan Jansen for R 3.9 M. On the other hand, Paarl Royals went for Jason Tabraiz Shamsi by chasing out a huge R4.3 million.

Johannesburg Super Kings Captain Faf du Plessis and their assistant coach Albie Morkel said, “The player auction was a huge success for us as Jo’burg Super Kings and for the league itself. There were a lot of quality local and international cricketers picked up and that will certainly produce competitive cricket from the teams.”

The Inaugural SA20 league comprising 33 matches will be played from Janaury 10, 2023 to February. All the teams will play each other twice on a home & away basis during the league stage fixtures. After the completion of the league stage, two semi-finals will be played followed by the final clash.
