IND vs BAN 2nd Test Day 1: Bangladesh is hosting India for a two-match test series. India seized a comfortable victory in the first test to take a convincing 1-0 lead in the series. The second and final test match was staged at Dhaka this morning and as expected, India dominated the hosts and outplayed them in a fashionable style.
Winning the toss at the Sher-e-Bangla International Stadium, Bangladesh skipper Litton Das made an uncommendable decision to bat first. Batting first, Bangladesh succumbed to a decisive Indian bowling attack and was bundled out for a mere 227 runs total.
Bangladesh failed to build partnerships at regular intervals which cost them a demeaning first innings total. Opening batsmen Najmul Shanto (24) and Zakir Hasan (15) could only add 39 runs for the first wicket. The middle order was also relegated in their efforts to score big and was thumped by the Indians as Shakib (16), Rahim (26), Das (25) and Rahim (15) failed to make an impression.
Bangladesh’s innings wrapped in front of India’s pace attack
Apart from Mominul Haque (84), no Bangladesh batsman was able to score a resilient knock. Along with the frontline batting attack, the lower middle order and the tailend also failed to capitalize on the opportunity to score big. As a result, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.
For India, Umesh Yadav led the bowling attack and bowled marvelously to scalp 4 wickets for 25 runs. Ravi Ashwin was also exceptional in his efforts as he clinched 4 wickets for 71 runs. Jaydev Unadkat (2/50) chipped in a couple of wickets apiece.
Trailing by 227 runs, Indian openers KL Rahul and Shubhman Gill came out to play with 8 overs in spare. The two remained unbeaten at the end of the day’s play and added 19 runs. Gill (14) and Rahul (3) will take the crease for India at the start of Day 2’s play.
While Bangladesh will be aiming to get through the defense of Indian batsmen, the insurgents Indians will aim to take an unassailable lead onto the second innings.
