IND vs BAN Highlights, T20 WC 2022: India registers 5-run win over Bangladesh by DLS method

IND vs BAN Highlights, T20 WC 2022: Blistering half-centuries from Virat Kohli & KL Rahul accompanied by nerve-clinching bowling spells has helped India to clinch a 5-run win over Bangladesh by DLS method in a rain-curtailed fixture at Adelaide on Wednesday. With three wins in four matches, India occupies the top spot at the Group 2 Points Table while Bangladesh occupies third place with four points in their kitty.

Virat Kohli & KL Rahul laid the foundation for a Thrilling Win

Batting first India got off to a poor start as they lost their captain cum opener Rohit Sharma for just two runs in 3.2 overs reducing India to 11-1. However then came India’s lifeline, the one & only Virat Kohli on crease who took matters into his hand & did the rebuilding work for India. Kohli joined hands with Rahul & the duo took Bangladesh bowlers for cleaners. The duo stitched a 37-ball 67 runs partnership to keep India’s scoreboard ticking. KL Rahul looked in good touch in today’s fixture as he was finally able to register a double dight score & ended up scoring 50 runs off 32 balls with three fours & four sixes. However, their flourishing stand was broken when KL was sent back to hut off Shakib-Al-Hasan’s delivery in the 10th over.

But Virat on the other end was not in the mood to stop his onslaught with the bat. He further stitched a glemaing 38-run stand for the third wicket with Suryakumar Yadav to take India towards a decent total. Suryakumar took the aggressor role while Virat supported him by smashing occasional boundaries. However, Shakib had the last laugh as he dismissed Suryakumar in the 13th over for 30 runs off 16 balls. Suryakumar’s dismissal didn’t affect Virat Kohli on the other end who continued his onslaught with the willow. He brought up his 36th fifty in just 37 balls & also became the highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup. Wickets kept falling at the other end with Hardik (5), Karthik (7), and Axar (7) all failing to hit the straps. In the end, R Ashwin’s unbeaten 13 runs off 6 balls along with Virat Kohli’s 64 off 44 balls helped India to end their innings at 184-6 in 20 overs. Virat played a mind-blowing innings braced with eight fours & a six. For Bangladesh, the pick of bowlers was Hasan Mahmud (3-47) and Shakib Al Hasan (2-33).

India’s fiery bowling spell overshadowed Liton Das’s efforts

In reply, Bangladesh got off to a rewarding start, thanks to the curated innings by Liton Das. He smashed Indian bowlers across the park to make use of powerplay overs to the fullest. Liton Das & Shanto helped Bangladesh cross the 50-run mark after six overs. Litton was breathing fire as he brought a half-century in just 21 balls taking Bangladesh’s score to 68-0 after seven overs. India was desperately in need of a breakthrough & Rain did the magic for Men in Blue. Rain stopped the play with the equation reading 119 runs in 78n balls with Litton Das & Shanto staying unbeaten at the crease. The play resumed after some time & the game was reduced to 16 overs with Bangladesh’s revised target being 151 runs in 16 overs. They needed more than 85 runs in nine overs & were 17 runs ahead as per the DLS method.

Post resumption of the fixture, India made a stunning comeback as they removed dangerous-looking Liton Das in the seventh over by a run-out. Liton das was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 60 runs off 27 balls in an innings braced with seven fours & three sixes. His opening partner Shanto too was dismissed in the 10th over off Mohammed Shami’s delivery reducing Bangladesh to 84-2. There was a mini collapse for Bangladesh as Afif Hossain (3), Shakib-Al-Hasan (13) & Yasir Ali (1) all failed to hit the straps reducing Bangladesh to 102-5 in 12.2 overs.

In the end, Nurul Hasan (25 off 14) & Taskin Ahmed (12 off 7) stitched 37 runs in 19 balls to revive Bangladesh’s innings. The equation read 20 runs off six balls. Arshdeep was brought into the attack & Nurul Hasan smashed a six on the second ball of the last over. With six runs needed off one ball Arshdeep held his nerve to defend the winning runs & helped Bangladesh to register a gleaming five-run win. For India, the bowlers who stole the show were Arshdeep (2-38) & Hardik Pandya (2-28)
