IND vs BAN: India’s captain & ace Indian batter, Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the upcoming second test match against Bangladesh that is scheduled to start on 22nd December at the Sher-e-Bangla International Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Rohit is currently undergoing treatment for his injured left thumb in Mumbai.
Sharma sustained a grievous injury in the second of India’s three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. He reportedly got a fractured left thumb while fielding in the second ODI. However, he had high spirits and came in to bat with a fully-taped glove and scored a heroic half-century to inch India closer to a victory. Unfortunately, Rohit’s efforts went in vain as India lost the game by five runs.
Rohit Sharma has been prone to injuries throughout the calendar year and has missed several crucial fixtures including a three-match test and ODI series against South Africa, a solitary test match against England, and an ODI along with a couple of Test matches against Bangladesh.
It hasn’t been a great year for Rohit Sharma who has been battling with his health as well as losing in major international events. India was earlier eliminated in the T-20 World Cup 2022 after a brutal defeat against England.
KL Rahul will continue to lead India in Rohit’s absence
Meanwhile, the insurgent Indian side has not lost a match since Rohit’s departure. They won the final ODI against Bangladesh as well as seized the first Test match. Sharma was replaced by frontline batsman KL Rahul who led India in the lone ODI and the first test match.
It is learned that KL Rahul will continue to lead India for the second Test match against Bangladesh in absence of regular incumbent captain Rohit Sharma. Abhimanyu Easwaran who replaced Sharma for the first test will travel alongside the squad for the second test as well.
Rohit will likely rejoin the Indian contingent in the upcoming three-match T-20I series against Sri Lanka starting on January 3.
