There comes a huge blow for India ahead of the IND vs BAN ODI series. Their veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the ODI series commencing from Sunday due to a shoulder injury. Jammu-Express Umran Malik has been named as Shami’s replacement in the ODI squad.
Shami is currently under BCCI’s medical team’s supervision at the NCA in Bengaluru. And reportedly he sustained an injury during a training session after he returned from Australia where India got eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2022 after suffering a defeat at the hands of England in the semifinals. As per the reports, Shami could further miss Bangladesh’s two-match Test series starting in Chattogram on December 14.
Initially, Umran malik was not named for India’s tour of Bangladesh but Shami’s injury has paved way for Malik in the Bangladesh ODI Series. India also has the option of giving an opportunity to any one of the fast bowlers accompanying the India A team in the Bangladesh Shadow tour. Navdeep Saini & Mukesh Kumar are two fast bowlers accompanying India A team for the Bangladesh Shadow tour.
In the first four-day fixture in the ongoing tour, Saini scalped four wickets to create an impact while Mukesh ended up by scalping three wickets. If Shami gets ruled out of the Test series as well then there are high chances of any one of them coming into contention to play. Mukesh is yet to make his International debut while Saini has played two tests after making his debut on India tour of Australia in 2020-21.
Meanwhile, apart from Shami Ravindra Jadeja too has been ruled out of the ODI series since he hasn’t recovered completely after undergoing knee surgery in September. His participation in the Bangaldesh Test series remains doubtful & Saurabh Kumar who is a part of India A squad will come in as Jadeja’s replacement.
IND vs BAN ODI series will be played from December 4 to December 10. The first ODI will be played on December 4 in Dhaka followed by the second ODI on December 7 at the same venue. The final ODI of the series will be played on December 10 in Chattogram.
