IND vs NZ 1st ODI: Heavyweights New Zealand thrashed India to register a splendid seven wickets victory in the first of the three-match ODI series at Auckland. With this, insurgents New Zealand take a 1-0 lead in the series with a mind-blowing performance.

India was off to a flying start as openers Shikhar Dhawan (72) and Shubhman Gill (50) recorded a fine partnership of 124 runs. However, the middle order failed to capitalize on the start as Pant (15) and Yadav (4) failed to hold the crease. Shreyas Iyer led India’s batting attack and scored an impressive knock of 80 runs and set a vital 94-run partnership with Sanju Samson (36) for the fifth wicket.
In the end, an explosive cameo by Washington Sundar (37) helped India to cross the 300-run mark.
For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson was the pick of the bowlers who scalped 3 wickets for 59 runs. He was brilliantly supported by Tim Southee who registered a figure of 3/73. Adam Milne (1/67) chipped in a wicket apiece.
Chasing a challenging total of 307, New Zealand was off to a sluggish start as openers Finn Allen (22) and Devon Conway (24) failed in their effort to provide a solid start. However, skipper Kane Williamson (94) and match-winning batsman Tom Latham (145) then came to the rescue and recorded an unbeaten stand of 221 runs for the fourth wicket as New Zealand hunted the total in just 47.1 overs.
For India, debutant Umran Malik was the most impactful bowler as he grabbed 2 wickets for 66 runs. Shardul Thakur (1/63) scaled a wicket apiece. The second ODI between India and New Zealand will take place on Sunday at Seddon Park.
