IND vs NZ: New Zealand announces Squad for India T20I series

IND vs NZ: New Zealand has announced 15 member squad for their upcoming T20I Series against India beginning later this month. And there comes good news for Mitchell Santner who has been named as Captain of the 15-member squad. Santner will lead the squad as Kane Williamson & Tim Southee have been rested for the series as the duo has opted not to travel after the series against Pakistan.

NZC has handed a maiden call-up to Ben Lister, Auckland’s fast bowler who toured India as a part of the New Zealand A squad in 2022 & was named Auckland’s Men’s Bowler of the Year 2022.

“Ben has made an exciting impact for Auckland early in his career in red and white-ball cricket. Since his debut in late 2017, he is the Aces’ leading wicket-taker in T20 and List A cricket. His ability to swing the ball considerably as a left-arm is particularly exciting,” New Zealand’s chief selector Gavin Larsen said.

For the unversed Lister’s tour of India with the New Zealand A team ended abruptly when he fell sick due to pneumonia & had to be hospitalized in Bengaluru before returning home. He has scalped five wickets in three Super Smash Fixtures for Auckland in the 2022 season & six wickets in six Ford Trophy Innings.

IND vs NZ: Latham to lead ODI Squad while Santner will lead T20I Squad

Meanwhile, with Williamson & Southee not traveling to India after the Pakistan tour, New Zealand will be led by Tom Latham in the ODI series & Santner in the T20I series. Santner has previously led New Zealand in 11 T20is eight of which were played in Ireland, Scotland & the Netherlands in 2022.

NZC further confirmed that fast bowlers Kyle Jamieson, Adma Milne, Matt Henry & ben Sears are unavailable for selection as they are recovering from injuries.

Currently, New Zealand is playing a series in Pakistan where they have one fixture left in the three-match ODI series which is currently leveled at 1-1. They have already drawn the two-match Test series. After the conclusion of their Pakistan tour, New Zealand will travel to India for three-match ODI series which will be played from January 18 to 24 followed by three-match T20I series in Ranchi from January 27 to February 1.
