IND vs SA 2022: Hardik Pandya to join Indian team’s Practice Sessions from Tuesday

IND vs SA 2022: KL Rahul-led India’s T20I team had already begun their practice sessions on Monday at the Feroz Shah ground at Kotla in Delhi. But what came as a surprise for all is the absence of Hardik Pandya who was not seen in the practice sessions. He reached Delhi on Monday night & will join the training sessions from Tuesday.

“For players who played in the IPL final, it was not mandatory to join by June 5. But most of them did. Yuzi was rested for that reason on Monday. But Hardik has joined the squad and will be available for practice today,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Hardik Pandya’s return is a boon for the Indian team. He has been in superb form after returning from his injury. In the IPL 2022, under Hardik’s captaincy, his franchise Gujarat Titans lifted their maiden IPL Trophy right in their debut season. He ended the tournament as the highest run-scorer for GT with 487 runs in 15 matches at an average of 44.27 and a strike rate of 131.26. With the ball, he scalped 8 wickets at an economy rate of 7.27. Hardik Pandya’s excellent 3-17 against RR helped them to win the summit clash of the IPL 2022 & thereby clinch the title.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya’s Crucial Role in the Indian Squad

Hardik is expected to play the finisher’s role for team India in the crucial T20 World Cup 2022. If he is able to bowl his quota of four overs, India can afford to include an extra spinner or an extra batsman in their squad. With Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar set to be India’s leading pacers at the T20 World Cup, Hardik can play the fourth pacer’s role in Australia.

It will further help the management to either include Axar Patel in the lower order to provide batting depth or place death overs specialist Harshal Patel in the World Cup’s Squad. Hardik’s inclusion will also lessen the load on India’s three lead pacers. If everything works according to the Plan then Hardik will bring in the balance that India missed during the T20 World Cup. Hardik’s standout leadership skills have made him the leading candidate for the captaincy role for India’s T20I series against Ireland.

Coming to the practice sessions, Rahul Dravid took his time-out & watched Umran malik bowling at the nets. Bowling coach Paras Mambrey also conducted a special session with Umran on Monday. However, it was Arshdeep Singh who impressed one & all present with his lethal yorkers. He kept bowling at every area Mhambrey wanted him to. For the 1st T20 against South Africa, the competition will be between Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, and Arshdeep Singh for the third pacer’s role.
