IND vs SA: Virat Kohli & KL Rahul rested for third T20I

IND vs SA: India’s swashbuckling batters Virat Kohli & KL Rahul have been rested from the third T20I against South Africa on Tuesday. The final match of the T20I series will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. According to reports, Virat Kohli flew back to Mumbai on Monday morning after the completion of the second T20I against South Africa on Sunday in Guwahati.

“He has been rested from the final T20I,” a BCCI official told PTI. As India has already clinched the series by 2-0 & the third T20I is just a dead rubber, the BCCI decided to give their key players Kohli & Rahul some rest ahead of the marquee event in Australia.

Virat Kohli has chosen to spend some time with his family in Mumbai before departing for Australia with the rest of the Indian team. After the completion of the South Africa T20I series, the World cup bound Indian team will assemble in Mumbai where Virat Kohli will join them. The entire T20 World Cup contingent will depart for Australia on October 6 to feature in the marquee event.

IND vs SA: Rishabh might come in place of Virat Kohli, Shreyas might walk-in place of KL Rahul

Virat Kohli played a crucial role in India’s series-clinching win on Sunday as he stayed unbeaten at 49 off 28 balls & helped India to register a glemaing 16-run win over Proteas. With Virat Kohli & KL Rahul being rested for the third T20I, Rishabh Pant & Shreyas Iyer might get a go-to in the Playing XI.

Mohammed Siraj who was named as Bumrah’s replacement too might a chance to prove his prowess in the third T20I. As Virat, Rohit, Suryakumar & India’s dedicated finisher & Wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik all are blazing guns at the top-order, Rishabh Pant’s chances to feature in India’s Playing XI for the World Cup 2022 are rare. However, to keep the team prepared for all uncertainties & injuries, the management might include Rishabh in the Playing XI for the third T20I so that he could get some game time in the middle ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022.

On the other hand, considering Deepak Hooda’s injury, management will likely include Shreyas Iyer in the third T20I against South Africa. Deepak Hooda is still injured & rehabilitating in NCA & to keep a backup ready, the Indian team might go ahead with Shreyas Iyer for the third T20I. Heading into the third T20I India would also aim to improve their death bowling which is a major concern for them ahead of the marquee event in Australia.
