Backed on the solid performance of ace batsman Suryakumar Yadav, India defeated Sri Lanka by 91 runs to seize the third T-20I. With this, India also registered their 10th straight series victory against Sri Lanka on home turf.
Winning the toss at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Indian skipper Hardik Pandya made a stunning decision to bat first. A thumping show by the frontline batting order helped India to record a fabulous 228/5 run total in their first innings of 20 overs.
India lost a quick wicket in the form of Ishan Kishan (1). However, a spectacular show by debutant Rahul Tripathi (35) helped India to recover from its woes. Further to the rescue, Shubhman Gill (44) and Suryakumar Yadav (112) stitched in a mammoth match-winning partnership of 111 runs for the third wicket.
Stellar Suryakumar Yadav recorded his third T-20I century. The master-class batsman has yet again proved his caliber and portrayed why he is acclaimed as World’s No. 1 batsman. In the end, the blooming all-rounder added the cherry on the cake with his cameo of 21 runs in 9 balls.
For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka was the pick of the bowlers though he was expensive. He scalped 2 wickets for 55 runs. Karun Rajitha (1/35), Chamika Karunaratne (1/52), and Wanindu Hasaranga (1/36) chipped in a wicket apiece.
IND vs SL 3rd T20I: Sri Lanka succumbs in front of India’s fierce bowling attack
Chasing a gigantic total of 229 runs, Sri Lanka was off to a decent start as Nissanka (15) and Mendis (23) added a 44-run for the first wicket. However, the middle-order collapsed to a thundering Indian bowling attack as Sri Lanka failed to capitalize on their start and lost wickets at regular intervals.
As a result, the touring party did not manage to put up much-needed partnerships and were bundled out for a mere total of 137 runs and India recorded a colossal 91-run victory. Apart from Silva (22), Asalanka (19), and Shanaka (23), no other batsman played a noteworthy knock.
Arshdeep Singh (3/20) once again struck with the ball and destroyed the Sri Lanka tailend. Skipper Hardik Pandya (2/30), Yuzvendra Chahal (2/30), and Umran Malik (2/31) were also pivotal in their performance whereas Axar Patel (1/19) claimed a wicket apiece. India will now take on Sri Lanka for an ODI series that will kick start on Tuesday at Guwahati.
