IND vs SL: India will continue to stay without the services of its ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah as his comeback has been delayed for a few more days. The BCCI has decided not to name him in the ODI series against Sri Lanka beginning on December 10. Initially, Bumrah was not named in India’s squad announced for the white ball series against Sri Lanka on December 27 but he was later named in the ODI squad announced on January 3.
Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022 due to a stress fracture in the back & since then has been rehabilitating at NCA in Bengaluru. He was named into the ODI squad after monitoring his training & bowling routines at the end of December 2022.
“The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the NCA,” the BCCI had said in a statement announcing Bumrah’s return. “He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon.”
Jasprit Bumrah could feature in New Zealand ODI Series beginning on January 18
Even after being named in the ODI squad Bumrah didn’t travel to Guwahati with the Indian team for the first ODI against Sri Lanka set to be played on Tuesday. When India’s squads for the ODI & T20I series against Sri Lanka were announced on December 27 media had reported that Jaspirt Bumrah is fit for the series. However, selectors decided not to rush him immediately after his recovery considering how his injury resurfaced during the home T20Is against Australia in 2022. Due to the injury, Bumrah was also ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 where they lost to England in the semi-finals.
There is still a possibility of Jasprit Bumrah featuring in India’s ODI series against New Zealand beginning on January 18. India will play three ODIs against Sri lanka on January 10, 12 & 15. And Bumrah’s absence means the pace attack will now comprise Mohammed Shami, Umran Malik, Mohammed Siraj & Arshdeep Singh. They also have a seam-bowling option in face of all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
