IND vs WI 2022: Virat Kohli likely to miss the opening ODI due to a groin Injury

IND vs WI 2022: Virat Kohli is likely to miss the opening ODI against England at the Oval in London on Tuesday (July 11) due to a groin injury. According to the sources in the BCCI, the injury is not looking serious & a decision on his participation in the opening ODI of the series will be taken on Tuesday morning.

“The injury is not looking so serious at this stage. The medical team is examining. He was taken for scans and his chances of playing will depend on the results of the scan,” sources have told Cricbuzz.

If Virat would miss the opening ODI it won’t affect the Indian team much as they have enough backup players in the 17-member squad for the three-match series. The second and third ODIs are at Lord’s and Old Trafford, on July 14 and 17.

Meanwhile, on Monday the Indian team traveled back to London from Nottingham where the third and final T20I against the home team was played. The team management had declared that Monday will be an optional training day for the team players & those who were a part of Sunday’s T20I did not take part in the training session.

Shikhar Dhawan, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan, and Mohammed Siraj were among those who turned up at The Oval for practice on Monday afternoon.

On the other hand, the national selectors are expected to announce the T20I squad for the much anticipated West Indies tour in the next one or two days. As reported by Cricketflicker, most of the senior players who were rested for the three ODIs in the Caribbean will be back for the series, with the lone exception of Kohli.

Virat Kohli has been going through an extended period of lean phase in the game but the management hasn’t decided to rest him because of poor form, but it was Kohli who has requested the selectors to not consider him for the West Indies series as he wants a short break.

IND vs WI 2022: After the completion of the England series, India is all set to play three ODIs and five T20Is against the West Indies in the Caribbean and the US, between July 22 and August 7.
