IND W vs SL W: Sri Lanka Women defeated India Women in the final match of the bilateral T-20 International series by seven wickets. Captain Chamari Athapaththu stood as the guardian angel for her evolving team as she scored a magnificent knock of 80 runs to take her side through.
However, India Women had already displayed a fascinating show in the first couple of T-20 matches to seize the series. India won the series by 2-1 and astonishing all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur was declared as Player of the series.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first in the final T-20 game, India Women were restricted to a total of 138/5. Harmanpreet Kaur (39 of 33), Jemimah Rodrigues (33 of 30), and Smriti Mandhana (22 of 21) anchored the Indian innings. For Sri Lanka Women, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Ama Kanchana, and Sugandika Kumari chipped in a wicket apiece.
Chasing a modest total of 139 runs, Sri Lankan Women lost two early wickets and were stuck in the chase until captain Chamari Athapaththu came to the rescue and played a splendid knock of 80 runs in 48 balls.
Athapaththu’s innings proved to be the turning point of the match as she scored with an exceptional strike rate of 167. Other than Chamari, Nilakshi de Silva (30 of 28 balls) played a supporting knock to help her side regain the lost prestige.
For India Women, Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav chipped in a wicket apiece. India Women failed to defend the target and missed the accomplishment of a series whitewash.
IND W vs SL W: The next stage of the bilateral tour is the ODI series between the two sides that will begin on 1st July. Ahead of the Commonwealth games and the Women’s T-20 World Cup, the Indian contingent looks confident enough.
