IND W vs SL W: The Indian women’s team produced a spell-bounding show with both bat & the ball to outclass Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to clinch the second ODI & win the series by a 2-0 score. Shafali (71) & Mandhana’s (94) heroics with the bat helped India to chase the target easily without breaking a sweat.
The match unfolded with Sri Lanka winning the toss & opting to bowl first. The division turned in favor of India who kept Sri Lanka at bay by scalping regular wickets. Indian bowlers wreaked havoc with the ball by scalping three wickets within a space of 11 runs & 6.1 overs. Renuka Singh starred with the ball by dismissing their top order & helping India to have an edge over Sri Lanka Women.
After the loss of three wickets, Chamari Athapathuthu & wicket-keeper Anushka Sanjeewani tried to resurrect Sri Lanka’s innings but couldn’t do that as their blooming stand was broken by Athapaththu for 27 runs followed by Sanjeevani. Half of the Sri Lankan team was back into the pavilion for just 70 runs on board. Lanka’s lone fighter Kanchana stitched some valuable stands first with Nilakshi De Silva (32) & then with OIshadi Ranasinghe & Inoka. However, her efforts were not enough with wickets falling at regular intervals on the other end. As a result, Lankan innings were wrapped at 173 with Kanchana staying unbeaten at 47*.
Renuka Singh was the pick of the bowlers for India after scalping 4 wickets for 28 runs. Meghna Singh (2-43) & Deepti Sharma (2-30) also scalped in with two wickets each. Chasing a decent 174-run stand, India was off to a blastic start with Smriti Mandhana & Shafali Verma stitching a 50-run stand in 8.2 overs. The duo smashed Lankan bowlers all across the park & went ahead to stitch 174 run stand to take India home in just 25.2 overs. Smriti Mandhana ended at 94* off 83 balls while Shafali Verma ended at an unbeaten 71 runs off 71 balls. The duo’s partnership is the best for India against Sri Lanka.
After clinching the first ODI, India would look ahead to complete a 3-0 sweep in the series when they will meet Sri Lanka in the second ODI on Thursday.
