The wait for the India-Pakistan Test series continues to get prolonged as top sources from India’s apex administrative body BCCI have confirmed that the governing council is not planning to host or conduct the much-anticipated series. In a strong statement by a top source, the person mentioned that there are no such plans for the same and if anyone wishes it to happen, they shall keep it to themselves.
India and Pakistan are the most contemplated arch-rivals in the history of cricket. Since the fixtures between the two sides attract tremendous fan attendance and viewership, all the countries are excited to grab an opportunity and become neutral hosts for the Test series between the two nations.
India and Pakistan last played an international test match back in 2007. The escalating geopolitical situation between the two countries has resulted in boycotting of bilateral series and the two sides only meet at International ICC events or the Asia Cup.
Top Cricketing Nations wants to host India-Pakistan Series
Starting from the Emirates Cricket Board, top cricketing bodies across the globe have offered to host a test series between the two nations. In one of the most recent events, Chief Executive of Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) Stuart Fox made an inquiry with Cricket Australia regarding hosting the India-Pakistan Test series at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Fox was commentating on SEN Radio during the fourth day’s play of the Boxing Day test between Australia and South Africa that was being hosted at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Fox stated that MCC has also consulted the Victorian Government and made a joint bid to Cricket Australia.
Notably, MCC and the Victorian Government were quite amused with the scintillating response of fans who turned up in large numbers at the T20 World Cup Group Stage fixture between India and Pakistan in October 2022. The match was hosted at the MCG scripted history with an all-time high attendance of 90,293.
However, the BCCI has likely scrapped the offer of allowing an India-Pakistan Test Series between the two arch-rivals anytime soon. Earlier, England and Wales Cricket Board had also offered BCCI and PCB to be a neutral national venue to host a Test series between the two sides. The BCCI rejected the plea by the ECB as well. The time will only tell when India and Pakistan will play against each other with the red ball.
